I gave 5 stars based on expectation and price. This is also my first time buying a laptop cooling pad so I have no comparison. I've read many reviews and while I'm not impressed with this one, I doubt I'd be much happier with other cooling pads I've reviewed online. One of the main reasons I bought this cooling pad was the switch to turn on the light, which for some reason most others didn't have. This alone eliminated most of the competing products. In reality, when the laptop is on the cooling pad, you won't notice the light at all unless you are in a very dark room. The second factor was trying to guess which fan layout would best cool my particular laptop (a 15 inch laptop with more power). ) depending on the location of the bottom vents of the laptop. It probably doesn't matter much, but I'll still keep this in mind when looking at different coolers. It's almost perfect for the 15-inch overpowered case. It flares out a bit on the sides, meaning the bulkier 15-inch laptop can overhang a bit. The overpowered case is relatively compact with small bezels. The fans are louder than I would like at the lowest speed, but again. I have nothing to compare. For the price I can't complain as better fans would probably cost more. At the lowest RPM, the fans are certainly audible, but if you don't mind a little noise, it's no big deal. The noise increases significantly as the fan speed increases, but it never gets as loud. about each other. Unfortunately I don't really watch the temperatures but I reckon it's about 7 degrees colder on average which helps a lot but it would be nice if it did a little more. I have the cooler when I run the laptop mostly all day with a few VMs. Although it's a gaming laptop I haven't played it much yet so I have no idea if it could make a bigger difference if the system is stressed with demanding games. The included USB cable is a bit long, but that's understandably necessary to support the various USB port positions on laptops. . I bought a 6" USB cable to keep the cable from dangling, so that was an added expense. Having no personal experience with other cooling pads, I see no reason to star shoot. I am not at all happy with my purchase other than wishing it was quieter but if I were to buy a second cooling pad I would definitely look at the other options before buying a second one. However, if I stick with my demand for no lights (or a switch to turn it off), there really aren't many alternatives. I most likely made the right choice in purchasing this cooling pad over the others from Revain.
