I bought this after my cat was neutered and the hospital's post-op instructions said it would take at least 14 days to recover. I figured that should be enough to leave it on my cat for a week. While this prevented him from licking his wound, it also caused him to often scratch his neck. He scratched his neck so often that he tore his fur and even bled to death. I had to remove it from him immediately so the wound on his neck would heal. I suspect this is because the e-collar is like hard, inflexible plastic at both ends. I suspect if it had been a softer and more flexible material at the ends it would not have irritated my cat's throat as much as it did.
