I've never had experience with Chrome OS. I needed to replace an aging iMac and wanted something compact for my kitchen/great room. Its main use was to surf the web and stream music, videos, etc. This device is truly amazing! He is powerful and fast. It loads so fast and is online instantly. Chrome OS is very easy to learn, especially if you use the Chrome browser and/or are familiar with the Android ecosystem. I really love this shop! I prefer it to my Windows PC. ASUS has done a great job with this device - it's attractive, very versatile and has great connectivity. The only "downside" is that it's a bit pricey, but I expect this device to last for years (I've owned several ASUS devices to date and they work well). Google "gives" you 100GB of extra Google Drive storage if you buy this Chromebox free for a year, and then there's a reasonable monthly or yearly subscription fee if you want to keep that amount of storage. Alternatively, you can just add an external SSD if you need extra storage and don't want to use a cloud service.
