Review on Highly-rated Canon Powershot G10 14.7MP Digital Camera with 5x Wide Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom – A Photographer's Essential by Amy Lucero

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Released July 4, 2013 for Canon G10. . . Not 2008

Although I am posting this review today, July 4th, 2013, Revain refuses to accept it on that date. One might think that a rating after 5 years of use would be desirable, but that was not the case. AMAZ insists on dating it to 2008. Technically it's not great. I bought this camera here at Revain in September 2008. After 10,000+ photos, I'm happy with the overall performance, barring some low-light issues. I shoot in manual mode probably 25% of the time. This camera has never given me any warranty issues. I see a lot of people calling it a pocket camera. And yes, it fits in the pockets and I'm guilty of doing the same, but I've found getting dust on the internal sensor to be an issue. This is noticeable when flashing and extremely annoying when using the external flash (580EX). There seems to be two ways to solve this problem. (1) send it in for service at an exorbitant price, or (2) do what most service centers probably already do. With the CAMERA off, remove the battery and SD card. With the BATTERY DOOR OPEN, press the front adapter ring button and remove the ring. Then, using a 2-inch vacuum, hold the end of the hose firmly against the camera lens and rotate the vacuum for a few seconds. Sensor dust is gone. I have had this surgery twice in the last 5 years with excellent results. This is a great camera for street photography. This is my capture. And I got some pretty impressive close-ups too. Yes, I like this old hammer. 4 stars
