Like a protractor is useless
Works when reading the instructions. This should all be transparent and it should be more obvious that to measure true course you need to line up the center hole and the 90 degree mark on the circle with your intended course and then move it to the grade line on the graph. (along the rail with the center hole above the rail) and then read the corner.
