I was trying to use this to connect a wired keyboard and wireless mouse to a 24/7 desktop computer. I used to use a hub built into my monitor for this purpose, but ended up with a larger monitor that didn't have a built-in hub. It used to be very easy and predictable to wake up the system after sleeping by moving the mouse or pressing a key on the keyboard. don't always work. It looks like the hub is shutting down and is no longer providing power to the keyboard or mouse receiver. About half the time I have to plug a wired mouse directly into the computer's USB port to wake up the device, and then the keyboard connected through the hub doesn't work. So I have to disconnect and reconnect the hub before the connection is restored. I've even noticed the hub trying to disconnect while I'm actively using the mouse. This may have been a "design feature" by the manufacturer to reduce the power consumption of a battery-powered device. But that means the hub can't be reliably used to charge things that require a USB charger. In short, a hub may be suitable for occasional temporary use, but not for continuous use. I wouldn't use it to connect an external USB hard drive or any other device that needs power when the computer is on.
