As other users have said, yes, it will block any ports nearby with the USB port you plug it into. It's not a design flaw, it's just the only way a tiny USB CAC reader should be (it should be wide enough to accept your card). Accessing the military website is not a complete solution. Yes, Windows will install the correct drivers and such, but you may need to purchase an ActiveClient for more functionality (reading your DoD card and changing your password) and you will certainly need the correct certificates installed on your computer in order to access others access websites (e.g. NKO). In my situation, I already had a large, bulky wired CAC reader on my Windows 7 laptop (browser set up correctly and certificates already installed), so all I had to do was wait for the Windows installer to automatically download and install the driver on the device. which only took a few seconds and then I got back to work with this portable tiny USB CAC reader, accessing the same pages as my other USB reader with no problems. what to do when you need to set up your gear. Also, some websites will conflict with some existing intermediate certificates that may already have been installed on the computer. Just search Google for a solution.
