I currently have 3 StarTech 1U (250lb - Vented) shelves installed in my StarTech 25U Open Frame Server Rack. While they're certainly sturdy and will support the advertised weight without flexing, flexing, or sagging, installation is more difficult than it needs to be. Shelves use lath tabs instead of rails, so sizing requires some advance planning. Also, using nuts instead of rails makes adjusting an installed shelf a major hassle as you have to loosen them or remove them from each ear before these adjustments can be made (make sure you remove anything holding the shelf beforehand holding on). General recommendation: If you intend to fully load the shelf, I would recommend replacing the nuts with something similar in size to the holes in the shelf. As mentioned above the shelves hold the advertised weight although the nuts are quite small with only 6-8 holding the shelf by the ears. In my case, that means 6-8 nuts will hold 250 pounds. If you're new to rackmount shelves or have an enclosed rack, I highly recommend removing the tabs from the shelf and installing them first. After installation, slide the shelf from front to back. This allows you to easily install the nuts, and if you have an enclosed shelf, you can move them closer to the center of the shelf where there is more room to tighten. All in all, however, these shelves aren't meant to be moved around often and my complaints wouldn't stop me from buying another one. Despite the rather difficult installation requirements and the lack of rails, the shelves are solid, meet my requirements and are highly recommended.
