in the microphone which I had to replace due to age (>20 years old). Replaced with a newer improved CCTV camera but no sound. I bought a CCTV microphone from another market and it buzzed a lot for a while. Replaced it with this one and was immediately impressed with the improvement. The hum is gone, fairly low hiss at the default gain setting. At this point, the gain was about the same as the previous mic (which had no gain control) but lower than my original camera's original built-in mic. So I adjusted the gain (for the mics I received, clockwise to increase) and was impressed with the improvement. You can hear a normal conversation through 3 houses. Note, however, that at higher gain settings you'll be recording "everything", so there might be a lot of traffic noise in the background (unlike the previous mic's hum). It can also saturate the input of whatever your mic is plugged into, so some audio distortion, if it's too high (clipping/saturating input amplitude), just turn down the gain control (cw). The only installation note I have that is minor is that I would have preferred an audio jack or adapter like the one on my previous noisy mic, but this is specific to my setup. The adapter is cheap/easy to buy, even locally.
