The refurbished model does not come with the latest firmware and the update fails to download when trying to download it. I'm currently trying to update it with a USB drive, but I have a feeling most people won't go through this nonsense. And at this point I'm pretty sure the update won't work like that. I haven't tried playing a disc in it yet; It probably works fine. So if you don't want to use the apps, feel free to buy them and. Think ignoring firmware update notifications every time you turn on this stupid thing? Upgrade: The firmware can be upgraded using the USB flash drive option. so is it nice? It would be better if IT ACTUALLY COMES WITH THE RIGHT FIRMWARE OR IF IT REALLY WAS UPDATED VIA ETHERNET. Oh, and there's no digital audio on my soundbar, which is annoying, but at least the audio comes through the RCA input. However. It's a pain in the butt. If you have money, instead of wasting your time, effort, and frustration trying to get this thing to work and then dealing with "good enough," spend it on a better player. Re-update: Also don't buy it if you want to play discs as the sound randomly stops working and the player has to restart and eject the disc and then find out where you were before. Seriously, buy yourself something else. I would have returned this stupidity if I hadn't been so and so stubborn and hadn't already tried so hard. At one point I considered buying it for my parents (when it was just a problem with firmware updates and crappy apps - and damn the apps are so bad), but now that I've found that it's not even disc reliable can play? Sony should get Lisa out and just bury them all in a landfill. Recycling is too good for them. Update three: The firmware was updated yesterday (successfully and via download) and so far it works much better. But I still think that if you have the money, you should just buy a player that works instead of wasting hours of frustration on it.
