connected to a 12 volt car battery

I connected it to a 12 volt car battery to drain a 50 gallon pond. it emptied within minutes. Now it is connected directly to the large solar powered pool pumps. I have an old model from 2 years ago that still works with a direct connect solar panel configuration.
