For reference, each pack contains only 1 sponge (filter thread comes in a pack of 6). . . This is ideal for the bowls in the Cascade 1200 and 1500 canister filters. The sponge is quite coarse and catches the largest dirt particles. However, you will need a filter-threaded bowl or two to clean the water. When it comes to organic sponge care, there really is no reason to replace this product any sooner than once a year. To clean: drain the water from the old canister into a bucket, take this "bio-sponge” and wring it out. Rinse with old aquarium water and once clear enough place the sponge back in the filter. Do not use tap water for washing as the chlorine will kill the beneficial denitrifying bacteria. I give it 5 stars out of 5 because it fits the filter bowl perfectly, the price isn't outrageous and it will last a very long time. .
