but I wanted to move to separate components and a better DAC. Once I connected Yamaha to.

Well I wanted it to work. I really wanted everything to work. But that's not the case. I bought this unit for my second stereo to play music stored on network shares on my Win 7 PC and also connected to a Plex server. My Yamaha 5.1 receiver with network connection (3 years old) did the job but I wanted to upgrade to separate components and a better DAC. Once I connected the Yamaha to the network using an Ethernet cable and a router, it immediately recognized both the PC shares and the Plex server and played them all with no problems. The SMSL module played everything connected directly to it, including SD card files and external HD connected directly via USB cable. However, I could not get the network connection to work. With an Ethernet cable, it doesn't even look for a server. I get a long pause and then the message "Please check network availability". The device is connected to the network because I could see it on the network through the router menu. With WiFi, it would connect to the home network, then go one more step into the menu and display the message "Search Server". But no server was ever found. I tried different options, including turning DLNA on and off, to no avail. I updated the firmware to the latest version from the SMSL website. First, based on reviews and a device description listing its LAN and NAS capabilities, I decided to make sure the device had no malfunction. I sent it back and got another one. But the second block did exactly the same thing: it didn't connect to the server either via LAN or WiFi. I tried contacting both the seller and SMSL CS, but neither helped. I was prompted to turn on AirPlay for iPhone playback and make sure the device is connected to the network through a router and not directly to the computer's server (yes). After that, the communication stopped. Found another member in the forum with similar problems. So, unfortunately, this block is also returned. There really isn't anything for a similar price that includes a DAC and network player in one device, but unfortunately it didn't work for me. Two stars are deducted for the lack of use of a remote connection (LAN or WiFi) and another for the lack of CS. .PS I updated the firmware from their website but it didn't help. Upgrade to 3 stars. SMSL CS eventually contacted me and tried to troubleshoot. They were even kind enough to send me a free tester with a few suggestions. Unfortunately it was not possible to make the network part work. So I'm sending your device back too. However, their dedication and willingness to help exceeded all my expectations. Glory to them!
