Review on Metra 99 9300 BMW 97 05 Dash by Charles Notti

Easy to install but with many flaws

This face has a few flaws: 1. It's more of a cosmetic cover than an adapter, the instructions tell you to first install the rectangular metal cage that comes with your stereo is supplied and glue the stereo in place. However, on the BMW E46, the hole doesn't provide enough room to push out the necessary lugs for a secure fit, in my experience it moves a bit. (Some other brands require you to plug your stereo into an adapter and then plug in the entire unit, which attaches like an OEM deck). 2. Once the stereo deck is installed, simply place this adapter in front of it and secure it with two screws from the original deck. I found two problems with this part; One was that the depth of the dash wasn't enough to fit a full-size deck (the wired adapter required for aftermarket stereos is bulky and will interfere with the stereo), so I decided to swap a flat, non-CD media receiver for a better one Facility to buy .3. Another problem is that the opening of this adapter is small, it covers one side of the face a little, and now I can't take off the faceplate freely.4. The stereo looks recessed with this cover on top and it's not pretty, I'd rather have it flush. All in all, if you don't mind the optics, if you don't need to remove the bezel, and if you don't have any gap depth issues, then this might suit your needs.
