Review on πŸ”Œ Minimize Amp Noise with InstallGear Ground Loop Isolator by Eric Smithlin

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works as advertised

I had a buzz and thought my problem was caused by a ground loop. This was because my USB DAC's ground was about 30mV higher than my amp's ground (the DAC is connected to ground via the PC's USB port, while the amp is connected directly to ground via the IEC power cord) . Connecting the RCA cables from the DAC to the amp was connected to ground and caused a hum/hum loop since the two grounds were at different voltages. This ground loop isolator consists of a pair of transformers that allow the signal to pass while maintaining galvanic isolation of the signals. This means that the ground was no longer connected and the ground loop (and noise output) was eliminated. I have not noticed any degradation in sound quality or change in frequency response with this product and overall I am very impressed with this inexpensive ground loop isolator.

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Useless features
