The GM design for this key fob results in intermittent failure at the key ring attachment point. This is a narrow plastic bridge that will break in your pocket after a few years. I had both the factory key fob and a spare. This key fob is the right size to fit on the circuit board of a broken remote control. The replacement process was a bit more labor intensive than last time (also a third-party keychain). The rubber insert had to be perfectly positioned to snap into the case and ensure an even seal, and it took a few attempts to snap it into place. The battery contact spring was sent unassembled in the package. Inserting it into the slots in the case wasn't easy. (Note how the spring fits into your old remote, there's no indication in that case.) I ended up using a razor blade to make sure the slots were open enough to fit the tiny spring. It worked, I put in a new battery and the case snapped neatly into place. I expect this key fob to last as long as I own the car, but took two packs with me just in case. At least I'll eventually be able to replace the rubber piece when the writing wears off.
