I adopted a cat a month ago and live in a newly renovated apartment (great for us, not for a cat). I was terrified that she would ruin the nice new plush carpet. I have bought a scratching post for the living room and another cat scratching post for my bedroom, but when she is not in either of these places she does NOT bother using acceptable scratching posts, she chooses the ground beneath her works. just great. She started using it as soon as I put it on and I've seen her use it a few times since. I still see them scratch the carpet sometimes, but not as often now because most of the rooms in my apartment have a scratch carpet. It's not 100% unsightly either, although I would have liked more variety in the carpet colors as I have a dark gray carpet and bought a beige carpet which obviously doesn't go well together. Otherwise absolutely recommendable!
