I've always been the wooden handle guy because I'm a roofer and don't need a heavy bat. So I chose wood because it's light and doesn't cause vibration from impact. Then I saw this thing and just had to try it because wood breaks over time and I've spent a good $200 in my career just to replace it. So I ordered this hammer and most of all it's a sexy tool, this thing is BAAAAD to the bone in every way, but the optics are just perfect, it looks so professional. Anyhow, yes, to my surprise, this thing is actually lighter than my 16 oz wood handled Vaughn hammer and has the same or maybe even less vibration due to the urethane plug. I don't know if that's true, but it seems to transfer more power than other 16-ounce hammers. I'm surprised at how easily I swing when I'm hammering nails with it quite a bit, I've never felt it with any other hammer before. All in all I found the first steel mallet I like and will use it until I decide to spend $300 on Martinez I'm sure. It's worth $60 for anyone who's wondering in their mind if a hammer might actually be worth it. The style alone justifies the price for this bad boy.
