I bought three different 8" photo frames (8" Pandigital Panimage PI8004W01B LED Digital Photo Frame (Black), 8" Deluxe NIX Digital photo frame, rechargeable battery, and the motion sensor automatically turns the photo frame on and off when it detects you're nearby! digital photo frame with remote control (black)) as a kind of "shootout". I only had time to play with them for 5 minutes each, so I can share my first impressions. The overall photo quality of this frame is pretty good, and I really prefer the 800x600 800x480 resolution that many 9-inch frames have. Many of the sub-$100 9-inch frames only have 480 rows of pixels (ie vertical resolution), which of course you'll notice if you're looking at pictures no further than 5 inches away. Many of these 8-inch frames, on the other hand, have 600 rows of pixels - another 120 rows of pixels on a smaller frame definitely looks better to me. The menu system on this framework is fairly simple; It's certainly not as brilliant as the menus on a portable (battery-powered) 8-inch NIX frame. However, the main reason I am returning this frame is that it looks very cheap. Despite what the product image shows (which makes it look like it's shiny plastic), the frame itself is textured black plastic and looks very cheap. Compared with the 8" NIX portable frame and the Pandigital Panimage 8" frame, this one looks like a child's toy. Of course, it was also the cheapest of them all, so I guess that's not surprising. So which frames do I like best? I'm hesitating between the 8" Portable NIX and the 8" Pandigital Panimage. The NIX is battery operated, so you can move it around on the floor without being tethered to a wall or AC power source, and there are (capacitive?) touch buttons on the front for menu navigation (which look more complex than this non-portable 8-inch -Screen). NIKS). On the other hand, the 8-inch Pandigital has a more classic black bezel. For some reason I like the pandigital frame because it's more traditional and the picture quality is great. The Sony 9 inch frame is back because I can't stand a lower resolution (800x480) on a larger frame (9 inch). Again, take the above with a grain of salt because I only used each frame for 5 minutes. But hey, it's better than nothing!
