Disappointing - Alarm Systems

I bought this alarm system to (again) protect my Honda Element from catalytic converter theft. When I test the alarm on my bench it works fine and responds to a slight shake. When I put it in my car or attach it to a roof rack, it refuses to respond to the car's rocking (like someone using a saber saw on the exhaust system). I have no idea why rocking back and forth wouldn't work, but it renders the alarm useless for my purpose. Disappointing.
