The BMW X3 trailer hitch receiver is very useful when you don't need an electrical connection for trailer brake lights. The dealer wanted $1400 to install an original BMW hitch receiver (albeit with an electric jack). I paid my independent BMW mechanic $200 (2.5 hour labor) to install it. You can install it yourself and only pay for the receiver, but be prepared to spend half a day or a full day depending on your skills and smash a few plastic BMW body clips. In any case, the receiver allows you to easily mount a bike rack on the BMW X3 SAV, which is much cheaper and more convenient than buying a roof rack for bikes. One star deducted due to the missing connector for the trailer brake lights. Overall excellent value for money.
