I received this because Canon software allows some cameras to be used as webcams. This allows my camera to work all day without draining the batteries. Please note that if you connect the camera to USB to use it as a webcam, it will not supply power. Since you need to provide power from a battery (or dummy battery), this adapter is ideal. The cord is about 5 feet long on each side (thanks to the S.Ty.l man who answered my question before I bought it) so it easily fits on my desk next to my dock and power my outlets reached the ground. as well as a thinner cable from the adapter to my camera, which is behind my monitors. The power adapter does not heat up when my camera is on. The adapter seems a bit lighter than I expected, but it is UL listed and the camera works as expected. .
