After almost 40 years of abuse my Red Star Miele finally broke - still works great but the connection between the hose and the canister is broken. I sealed it with tape but decided it was time to buy a new model - only to find that the new one had a hose attached to the can and didn't spin like it used to. This is one of many modifications that make it less manoeuvrable. (Doug's wife) I find the new Brilliant disappointing overall. My house is getting dirtier simply because my heart skips a beat every time I think of using it, so I hesitate. The old wand was heavy metal and I always thought they could make it out of something lighter and simpler. They redesigned it but made it MUCH harder! And it has that odd "ergonomic" grip over the handle, which I'll admit probably makes vacuuming easier due to the wand's weight and clumsiness, but overall it's annoyingly bulky. Overall, the vacuum cleaner looks a lot cheaper than my old one. . The plastic door for the nozzles is really flimsy and flimsy. The vacuum cleaner also suddenly stopped working within the first hour; it just died. But now it works again. I hope this doesn't happen again. My biggest complaint (besides the awful wand) are the attachments. The detailed brush is tiny with very small bristles compared to the old version and difficult to maneuver on the end of a heavy wand. A fairly standard sized brush should alternate between low carpet and floor, but it gives the impression of scraping the floor. The rest of the brushes are gigantic. I suspect the typical person using this vacuum should have huge spaces with no furniture and vacuums just standing upright. If you have small spaces and need something that's easy to maneuver in tight spaces, or if you need to bend down and get around things, you might want to think twice before buying this vacuum. I had such great experiences with my old vacuum cleaner that I would go back to Miele. But I'm starting to have doubts. In the meantime, I'll buy other brushes that I could glue onto this thing.
