Why it stops spinning and what to do about it

Great bio wheel for our aquarium but it needs maintenance. We've read that the wheel doesn't need to be changed, but our old one was bent, crooked and came loose from the bracket. In terms of maintenance, here's what we do: If a wheel slows down or stops spinning: We've found that if we remove a filter and the wheel starts spinning, we flush that filter of all particles and put it back in place . When the wheel stops turning again, we discard this filter because it clearly blocks the flow of water necessary to turn the wheel, even though we can't see it from the outside. Then we insert a new filter and the wheel rotates normally. With heavy pollution with particles, we wash the wheel and filters, and sometimes it starts spinning again. If this does not help, we wash all parts of the filter, hoses and, if necessary, the entire filter holder box from all clogging particles. If none of these methods work, we replace the filters with new ones and the wheel starts spinning again and again after this process of elimination. Hope that helps.
