So one day my DH came home with a Keurig machine. We already had the Nespresso machine from the original line, but he also wanted a filter coffee maker, and Keurig offers both. Since I'm a coffee maker and we both only drink one cup of espresso a day, I don't know what he was thinking. Men. Anyway, my favorite Nespresso is closed for now and I use Illy Forte K cups. The resulting coffee is good, actually smooth and makes a passable espresso, but that doesn't measure up to my Nespresso espresso. That would be fine with me, except that Nespresso (and some others like Peets) are made from recyclable aluminum and these companies actually give you free postage to return your used pods. That's probably why they're 70-75 cents a cup and I have to buy online. While I hate adding those plastic cups to the waste stream, I really wanted reusable cups to work. Unfortunately, my DH also invested copious amounts of finely ground Illy espresso, which clogs the K-cup filters almost instantly. To get around this, I fill each of the three cups I buy with about half a scoop, using one for every three Cup of coffee. I plan to try them with coarse ground coffee one day and I expect to reconsider. up to a five star rating. In the meantime, I disassemble my plastic K-Cups, compost coffee (azaleas love coffee grounds, by the way), wash, and recycle plastic and foil.
