This ceiling light has three wires coming out of the back of the unit. Red wire (goes to +12VDC), black wire (goes to ground) and yellow wire (door open pin) which should be connected to the wire in your car that detects when the door(s) are opened. It is recommended to connect the RED wire to the +12V DC wire, connect the YELLOW wire to the vehicle door open sensor wire and ground the BLACK wire according to the instructions provided. The good news is that this is a very good dome light. The bad news is that the yellow wire needs to be grounded when the door is opened for it to work properly. Many American vehicles use +12V DC instead of grounding the vehicle's DOOR OPEN wire. Because of this, some people have stated that they can only get the ON position to work and not the DOOR position. This grounding of the DOOR OPEN wire is typical foreign car behavior, but many US vehicles supply +12V DC when the door is opened instead of grounding the wire. Unfortunately, the solution to this problem is not that simple. The designer had to include a small switch on the back of the dome that allowed the DOOR position on the dome to be operated by either applying +12VDC or by grounding the yellow wire (a simple modification that will solve this problem for everyone would). ). However, there is a workaround. In my case, in my 1998 Ford, the "door ajar" wire in the car goes high (to +12 VDC) when the door(s) is (are) open. Essentially, I wanted two things to happen with my blanket. -> First, I wanted the light to "turn on" when I open the doors, and.-> Second, I wanted to be able to turn it on manually. if necessary while driving. In a US car that gives +12 volts when the doors open, it can't do that via the yellow wire for the DOOR function because it wants to be grounded instead. I discovered this when I opened the door(s) and also when I turned the dash light dimmer all the way to the left (counterclockwise in my case - so the dash was at maximum brightness), the same "door open" - Wires in my Ford went high to +12VDC. So I just decided not to use the YELLOW wire on the dome light at all, instead insulating it with heat shrink tubing to avoid possible short circuits and wiring the RED wire from the dome light to the "door(s) of my car" tied the "open" wire and left the interior light switch in the ON position the whole time. The black wire was connected to the vehicle ground (-12 VDC). If I want to turn the dome on manually, I now use the dash light switch, instead of using the dome's "ON" switch position itself. While the overhead light switch now always stays in the dome's "ON" position, I have a light that "turns on" when I put the Doors open and I can turn it on manually if needed while driving.with the switch for the instrument panel lights.I really like the plafond. The quality seems very good for the price and they illuminates the cockpit of my car well. Due to the issue described above, I've decided to downgrade my rating by one star. Other than that, this is a great product. I hope this helps those of you who are having trouble getting it to work properly.
