This is the perfect size for chicks. 1 gallon is great for measuring and mixing electrolytes and probiotics in water. My last batch of chicks had 2 liter drinkers which I had to refill daily and then twice daily as they grew. 1 liter is a good amount for a few chicks, but not enough for a large batch. I will have 15 more chicks soon and it will be better than measuring and mixing for 2 small ponds as often. It's also a good size if you have an injured bird that needs to be separated. Doesn't take up much space in the incubator. It also comes with a drinking nipple so you don't have to use cups. The cups are still full of shavings, just like a regular drinker, but I've found that chicks prefer to drink from cups when given a choice.
