Okay, we got this package 2 days late; and it seemed that the outer orange-blue box (the source of human nature) had already been opened. In fact, the filter, bag and blue hose looked brand new and still appear to be in good working order. However, the backwash syringe/piston was missing. I hope the company reads this review and sends it to me before I actually have to use it (dry camping). If I can; I will update this review later. Okay, so this is a follow-up: either the company doesn't read their reviews and/or they don't care. They didn't contact me about the missing cleaning syringe. so I had to buy it myself. The system worked well with our hike. We drank filtered water from the Merced River with this system {last month}. Nobody got sick. So I think it worked. But it would be nice if I had a cleaning syringe included with this unit so I could "backwash" the filter portion of the Sawyer before storing it. persimmon
