I understand that some other reviewers might be confused about these lamps and I can only speak from my experience. Long story short, the two I bought work as advertised - turn on at dawn, turn off at dusk. However, they take a while to work as advertised when you connect for the first time. I hooked them up last night and they stayed the way they should because it was night. When I aimed the flashlight directly at the light sensors on the side of the bulbs for about 30 seconds, both stayed on, leading me to believe they were defective. In the morning, however, they switched off again as expected. Some more info: We just had a power outage for about 10 minutes. When power was restored the lights came on for about 2 or 3 minutes but then went out. There is another Sunbeam sunrise to sunset lightbulb that I bought from Walmart of all places that works as you would expect. It lights up as dusk approaches, but if you shine a flashlight on it (or turn on the overhead light in the room), it goes out immediately. When you turn off the ceiling light, it lights up immediately. Admittedly, this is exactly how one would expect such lamps to react immediately to ambient light or darkness. Obviously that's not how these GE lightbulbs work, but they still seem to get the job done. We hope these comments are helpful.
