Thick socks make feet feel suffocating and uncomfortable. On the other hand, thin socks don't warm enough outside in cold weather. These merino wool socks avoid both problems. They are thin, breathable and comfortable, but still warm. I wore them recently when I was outside in sub-zero temperatures for a long time. They performed well and cold fingers were never a problem. The material difference between merino wool and traditional cotton/polyester/nylon is immediately apparent when you put your socks on for the first time. They feel soft and cozy and don't itch at all like you would expect from wool socks. The only downside here is the price. $14 for a pair of socks is pretty expensive. I couldn't afford a drawer full of these things, but having a few or two for special occasions is worth it to me.
