Do not buy child sizes, they are made for Barbie dolls.
Every year I buy pajamas for the whole family. A 12 month old is MUCH small. Our grandson wears size 6-9 months and after washing you couldn't even get your hands up your sleeve, it was made for a barbie doll. I would return it but I washed it (according to instructions) so he could wear it for Christmas. Very disappointing. The only suitable size was women's medium. All others were made for elephants.
