This remote control is fantastic! I needed something that could turn 2 devices on and off, control volume, and of course I needed the same to control Roku. This remote was the answer to my problems! The bottom buttons are what you see on a regular Roku remote and are pre-programmed to control your Roku right out of the box. The top set of buttons is programmable and can be used as you wish. Basically, you can program any remote that you can send an IR signal from to perform that function on that remote. With 13 different programmable buttons, it offers enough space to program the functions you use most, so you don't have to use more than one remote control. Programming was as easy as it gets, but you MUST have your device's original remote or another remote that can control the device being programmed in order to use it to program a new remote. For example, if you want to program the volume up and down buttons, you must already have a remote that can control this device in order to point and program your new remote to it. For my setup I have a blue power button. /turn off my TV, the red button turns my receiver on/off and the volume buttons activate the volume on my receiver. I'm more used to having the volume control on the front of the remote rather than on the side, so I also programmed the up and down buttons to adjust the volume. The point is that it is very flexible in programming and easy to use. I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to ditch a few remotes from their coffee table and just have an awesome programmable remote that does the work for you.
