Review on 1 TB WD My Book Mac USB 2.0 External Hard Drive for Desktop by Hassan Tomlinson

great hard drive for mac users

I was originally planning to buy an Apple Time Capsule hard drive as we have 3 Macs and I try to only buy Apple branded accessories as they go well together . But according to research, many people don't like Time Capsule because it almost always dies after 18 months. (just after the warranty expired) So I looked for an alternative and found a Western Digital My Book for Mac which I ended up buying. The hard drive is small, quiet and doesn't feel cheap. As soon as I connected it to my Mac, a popup appeared asking if I would like to use it as an Apple Time Machine. I clicked OK and everything that was on my computer was copied to My Book. The first backup takes a few hours, after that the backup is very fast via USB 2.0 and with 1TB of storage I don't have to worry about running out of space any time soon. I mainly use this to backup my computer, but I also use it to temporarily store large files to transfer from one Mac to another. Western Digital is known for its reliable hard drives, so in hindsight this is probably a wiser purchase than buying the Time Capsule, which was a lot more expensive. It comes with its own software but I don't use it. Time Machine works well with this hard drive, so I don't need any other software. Some people have complained about not being able to uninstall the software, but that's no big deal. Whenever you connect a hard drive, a software icon will appear on the desktop, but you can disable it or just ignore it. Doesn't really take up much disk space.
