Review on πŸš€ AEM 22-516P Polished Short Ram Intake System: Enhance Performance with Style by Alex Barr

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The best value for money short ram.

This short AEM piston was installed on my 2007 Civic Si coupe and gives it a nice look. Sounds nice, but I'm not a noob fan in the automotive world who wants to sound cool. Have an S13 KA-T and a fully assembled and reinforced Integra. Dyno peaked between 5-6 WHP and that's at the altitude in Northern Colorado where there is less oxygen. This is a noticeable and unusual gain, a light but unapplied test bench (obviously, as the numbers prove). On par with the supplied dynamometer sheet. Generally, if you switch to a good cone filter, you will get some peak gain. Cool air intakes (of good quality) give you consistent but smaller gains across the powerband on a 2006-2010 Si. A short piston gives you a bigger but much shorter power curve at higher rpm. Don't waste your money on cheap eBay listings. They will not ship a dyno tested sheet with their product on your vehicle. They also back up their claims (if not outright lies) by adding it to a car that already has headers, throttle body, exhaust, etc. I know a few import fans who have tried knockoffs, one for $15, another for $50. one. None of these installed correctly and securely like AEM. One shed both horsepower and torque from the previous K&N drop tending to gain 1/2-1 horsepower. The other made 2hp but lost a ton of torque and produced a fancier powerband on the dyne sheet and most likely made the car slower overall. Actually it was better to remove the cheap pipe and put the supplied cone filter on the standard pipe with an adapter and N***** reattach it. The lessons are there, you get what you pay for. AEM on top, always use dyno tested parts like AEM. INJEN, K&N, etc. when it comes to intake systems. You can't do 15hp on a Civic, you can do a little by installing it yourself. But with headers, an exhaust, a throttle body, and maybe a flashing Hondata, you can get a decent, noticeable power boost. Mods rely on each other and work as a unit. If you want real performance you either have to spend a fortune on a full motor or use a supercharger. Don't skimp on the insides and seals. A cone filter will one day come in handy for your turbine too; )
