I love the availability of parts from Cascade Mountain Tech. One of my sticks recently broke and I was able to purchase a replacement for $9 plus tax with free shipping. I saw on their website that they also sell spare parts for their other models - I will definitely continue to offer them my services. As for the broken rod, yes, it would be nice if nothing ever broke. But I don't think a light trekking pole can break. When you choose lightweight camping gear, you're making a trade-off between durability and weight. I wanted less weight and that comes with less power and I agree with that. Trekking poles are widely used. What eventually happened was that one of the twist lock mechanisms sheared off the threaded plastic piece, leaving you unable to reassemble the shaft pieces. We probably could have been gentler with it by taking the pole apart for storage. So we used it. We have used it a lot. It broke. And for $9 I got it repaired like new.
