They are very cute and funny and my 7 year old loves them. Each shoe has a wheel at the front and at the back. The front wheel can be easily removed. The rear wheel must be removed with a special tool and screwdriver, but there is a button on the back of the heel that you can press to pop the rear wheel out of the wheel arch and sit flush with the sole. My daughter says that with two wheels inserted they are "freer and faster" than regular skates. She hasn't learned to only use rear wheel shoes like most kids and I can't think of any reason to only use the front wheel. We were going to take both bikes off anyway because she only wanted gold shoes with LED lights. However, you can see in the photos I uploaded that with no front wheel and the rear wheel stowed there are a lot of places for dirt and debris to get stuck. Also, there are a lot of exposed plastics that stick out a little further than the tread, so they slip a bit on hard, smooth surfaces (like tile or wood floors). a bit annoying because: 1. The button to turn on and/or change the lighting settings is on the inside of the inside of the sneakers. You can easily reach it while putting on your shoes as long as you remember to point the dangling USB charger/button upwards when putting on your shoes. However, it is somewhat uncomfortable when this button shifts and rubs against your ankle or toe. 2. You charge the light with this USB charger/adjustment button, which is a little annoying with shoes. I would have preferred if they had a battery compartment. It doesn't matter much though as I'm sure most people have USB charging stations just like us. It uses Micro B USB type which is common in most Android devices.
