We received these to replace our Olympus Tough which was given to teenagers after years of loyal service. We have just returned from a trip to Canada's National Parks and couldn't get enough of it. The camera took great photos (to our untrained eye, at least) in a variety of conditions, morning to midday, sun to rain, indoors and outdoors, close-up and far away. With over 900 shots, we are very happy with the quality of photos and HD movies. Of course, the best part about these rugged cameras is that you can (like us) take them on rafting trips, hikes, etc. and they're small enough to fit in your back pocket (where it won't break if you accidentally use them) . sit on it when getting into the car). He already has multiple battle scars from falls off a boat and a mountain bike (doh!), but he survived without a problem. And the video of us negotiating the class IV rapids on camera is priceless. We have a high-end camera, but it's too fragile and bulky to take with you when you're out in the "wilderness" or at the beach or just riding a bike. 1) The controls are fairly easy to use - even with gloves on 2) Auto (iA) does a good job of picking the right scene 3) We've had great luck with the image stabilization 4) Very durable and absolutely no water issues (not sure if I would take it for snorkeling but it worked great as we got very wet in the lake and rivers) 5) Turns on very quickly 6) Did I mention it takes great photos and videos? Dislikes 1) You have to be careful with waterproof seals to make sure there's no dirt etc when you close them (i.e. only change batteries when you're in a clean and dry place!) [ Note to Panasonic: it could certainly be a bit more reliable than having two watertight doors in case one fails] 2) AVCHD Lite was a problem and had to be converted on my Mac to get into iMovie - it was originally in the wrong one Speed imported and audio and video are out of sync but saved with a downloaded conversion software and two hours of sharpening (I should have listened to other reviewers and changed the format before we started!) 3) You must have this boring little presentation from Waiting for waterproofing tips Turn it on first and if you don't do everything it keeps coming back until you do - so see Check it out completely from the start! Bottom line, we love this camera and are sure we made the right choice by replacing the old Olympus. You will not regret it. We paired it with a 16GB Transcend TS16GSDHC6-P2 card and had enough space for a 10 day trip. Enjoy!
