I use these tiny 5 gallon sponge filters in my 2 gallon nano shrimp tank. They are easy to hide behind plants and tree stumps. I don't use a riser or modify it for air stones like some people insist. I appreciate the large bubbles that move the upper water and encourage gas exchange. My shrimp are healthy, happy and every morning I find thin sponges covered in shrimp. I've also upgraded a dozen more of them with high quality 30ppi sponges for large aquariums. This way they function like glorified air vents without the risk of clogging and burning my air pumps (which air vents are famous for). The bubbles also seem unnatural to me and cause more evaporation. These sponge filters are exactly the same as those in the Aquapapa 3 pack. They cost less and I got 4 instead of 3. Those are xy brand sponges anyway. Too bad I didn't try it first because of the price difference. I will buy again.
