It's flush, no special tools required, it just snaps into place. looks factory and the magnet is damn good. I went with the magnet option because it was the cheapest and most versatile. I'm using a Galaxy S10+ as a reference with a thin body and the phone only hides about an inch of the screen which is usually just control options anyway so nothing special, overall I'm very happy. UPDATE: 1 star deducted, but I still like the overall package very much. One problem is that the magnetic mount slides into the mount but doesn't snap into place, instead being held in place by tension. The magnet is so strong that sometimes when I lift the phone to remove it, the magnet and mount go with the phone. I just have to consciously remind myself to twist and pull sideways or down, not up. You can try just gluing it in place.
