The shoe itself is quite hard-wearing, Velcro fasteners secure the foot securely when driving. Also keep in mind that I only ride in dry weather. As someone with fairly flat, wide feet, I have had no pain using them. I went for size. The only downside I can say about them isn't even the shoes themselves. The spike on the sole of the shoe wears out quickly. I've only ridden them 2 times for about 35 miles and the spikes look pretty worn.
