Steamfast Humidifier Review

Received today. I will update this review if anything changes. I have been buying humidifiers for many years. I just gave up the ultrasound (once again) because of the white dust. I know these steam models are difficult to clean if you have hard water. I have cancer and respiratory problems so a humidifier is a must. What I like is that you can fill this machine from the top. I first filled the tank in the kitchen sink and when the water ran out during use today I just topped it up with a floating ball. This feature is great. The steam humidifier is equipped with an "oil ring" to allow the use of oils. I bought Artizen Eucalyptus essential oil (whole) from Revain and put a few drops in the ring on the vapor outlet (1st photo). So far I like the ease of use. I left it on "high" for a day and am very happy with it. Just a few side thoughts on all steam humidifiers. They are HOT so be careful when approaching or touching them. Allow them to cool before attempting to clean them. I suggest turning them off when you're not at home. Finally, place it on a table with a towel underneath. You won't get as much moisture as with ultrasound, but be careful and protect your furniture. I have reviewed all types of steam humidifiers and found this one to be the best for my needs. Remember, this is NOT a warm mist, it's hot water turning to steam. Wade As promised, I'll be back on 01/12/2020 to make some comments. Eventually the humidifier stopped working and the auto shut off indicator light came on. The water did not drain off, the ceramic heating element rusted. That's what happens with hard water, and apparently I'm hard (if you will). I suggest buying Billion Citric Acid 5lbs here at Revain ($14.49) as it works better than vinegar. If the ceramic heating rod is not derusted, it will produce less steam. For anyone who has complained that "Auto-off" is always "on", it's because there isn't enough water on the heating element. This happened to me and I just poured water from a drawer into the heating element area. (pull out the white "stack" first) Important note: I've had so many humidifiers over the years that even the ultrasonic "auto shuts off" even when the tank is clearly full. Sometimes air bubbles form or a valve sticks. I know that everything I've shared can turn people off. You can research "white dust" and dust mites and change your mind. Trust me when I say I've tried all kinds of moisturizers. I had a brand from Vick's with UV light to kill bacteria and it was good but it required an 'absorbing' filter and the absorbing filter has to stay wet or it will start to smell. I'm sharing this so people know that most humidifiers have issues, whether it's smelly absorbent filters, non-working "anti-dust" filters, or just steam humidification that can be a cleaning job. City water, but now it's harder than 10 years ago. Yes, it needs a weekly clean, but with the right tools and techniques, it should be easy. My second bottle of Revain Eucalyptus Oil arrived today. The dream was a dream. Literally. I'll come back when I have something to say. V. (Sorry, Revain editors). I forgot to mention that I use Mavea water, also bought here, "Mavea 10 Cup Water Filter Pitcher". It's like Brita, but better. I have a Revain subscription to send a new filter. When it is delivered it reminds me to change it. I'm not sure if filtered water will help, but it definitely won't hurt.
