Review on EKO Mirage-T 50L / 13.2 Gallon Touchless Rectangular Motion Sensor Trash Can with Brushed Stainless Steel Finish by Keegan Herbert

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Too expensive for the quality and design

I bought this bin about 6 months ago for use in the kitchen. This container is way overpriced for the quality you get. It also has some poor design qualities that make me not recommend it; are listed below: - The lid is opened and closed by a combination of a motion sensor and a motor. After about 6-7 seconds, the lid should close again. The lid usually opens fine, but about 50% of the time it only half closes or doesn't close at all when the timer runs out. This has been the case since I started owning it, so low batteries are not an issue. It also has capacitive touch open and close buttons that work well most of the time. However, this type defeats the purpose of a contactless automatic can. On the back of the glass, about 1/4 the length from the rim, is an opening that I believe is for an odor reducing filter. placed inside. This is normal, except it protrudes about 1/2 inch into the inside of the can. Also, the rim of the can folds inward of the can rather than outward and has a relatively sharp edge. When the bin bags are full they will get stuck in the filter holder AND on the rim of the bin resulting in small tears on the front, back and sides of the entire bag. If you're not careful, you'll tear the bag so badly that it'll be completely torn open and littered all over the place. This also makes removal more difficult. The metal of the can is of very cheap construction and bends easily. If you fill the bag too full, the sides of the jar will curl and stay that way. As a result, the lid does not sit properly on the glass. Because of the metal's thinness and malleability, it can be bent back, but not to its original shape. The only positive thing about this jar is its size and that it looks nice when the lid is actually closed and before it flexes. out of shape through normal use. Don't let the 4.5 star rating fool you, it can be rubbish (pun intended). Take your money elsewhere if you need an automated can, or just buy a stepped can from a reputable brand that's a lot easier and cheaper. Here's what I'll do when it comes time to replace this one.

Pros
  • A little above
Cons
  • Minor issues
