Installation instructions to avoid glass breakage!

This is a decent light for the price and in keeping with the currently popular aesthetic. As mentioned in many reviews, the instructions are rather useless and consist of several drawings. However, if you already have lighting fixtures installed, this should be pretty easy for you. The problem that initially baffled me and I think this is what led to many reviews saying that the glass breaks when installing the nipple or "centre column" as some call it. It will be too short if you follow the diagram and screw it all the way into the base (the part where the lamp sockets are). If you do this, you will have difficulty in the final step of installing the glass lens. To avoid this, unscrew it about 1/4 inch after screwing it in (it's still held securely by the hex nut). This way you will have enough length on the last step to use all the washers, the trim ring and the knob. And you don't have to "snap" the glass into the shadows. (Note that if you move the nipple/B-pillar too far there will be a gap between the glass panel and the fabric cover, so bigger isn't better!)
