Review on Unleash The Power Of Mythology With Gamewright'S Zeus On The Loose Card Game by Dave Harris

Revainrating 5 out of 5

So educational and yet my 6 year old is constantly begging to play it!

Gamewright didn't let me down! We already loved Sleeping Queens and Rat-a-Tat Cat, so I bought this one for my daughter's birthday. My 6 year old daughter tends to be about average (maybe slightly above but nothing unusual) for her age at math, and she can play this game without getting frustrated. In fact, she begs to play it all the time! I love it because it's fun for me too, but also requires adding numbers up to 100, which I have my daughter keep track of with a pen and paper. It also involves trying to make the numbers add up to a "10s" number (10, 20, 30, etc.) in order to steal Zeus, so while she is learning number pairs that add up to ten in school we've also been playing this game at home to help her learn them in a fun way. The God/Goddess cards throw twists in to keep it interesting; however, unless one memorizes what each card does the instructions have to be read, so I probably wouldn't recommend this game for kids who are much younger than 6. The games usually don't last too long and are fun and interesting strategy-wise for grown-ups too. Basically, there are many games my daughter suggests playing that I groan at, educational games that I suggest that she rolls her eyes at, and then games like this one that we both love!

Pros
  • The game provides a fun and engaging way to practice math skills
Cons
  • Prevalence of last-turn wins
