Sweet silence! No fan --- UPDATE - problem with new model

update 5/4/2019 --- They worked great as a silent power supply for my laptop and other solar-powered devices, but with my last purchase i had a problem. I've had 6 of these and 2 have died over the years. The last one I had on hand as a spare works fine at night but keeps crashing during the day. Why? Overload. The maximum operating voltage is 13.8 volts. And yes, I run it under power. Sometimes the sun rises to 14.5, and on cloudy days to 14.9. Older versions never bothered it, but the new one gets disabled every time it goes past 13.8. In fact, I had never noticed the 13.8 volt characteristic before. I just assumed it could run on the normal output of a solar panel or car alternator which can go up to around 15 volts. This is a serious design problem. Apparently, this only applies to the latest models, which are said to have slightly different components. (Including a much brighter status LED, which is actually pretty dazzling. Nothing can be fixed with tape.) Also, there's no indication when it goes out due to high voltage. The status LED is solid green, but the power supply blinks for a few seconds, up to a minute or until the voltage drops below 13.8 volts, and then turns back on. I live off the grid with a small solar system. I have two 400 watt inverters running in independent systems, but I rarely need more than 45-60 watts each. The 400 watt inverters work well but are very noisy and the fans run almost continuously. I decided I'd had enough and bought this 100 watt inverter because the reviews specifically mention that it doesn't have a fan. Go with this one that has a cigarette lighter plug. I used a NOCO GC018 cable (linked below) which has a female adapter with built in fuse and spade lugs to connect to the pins on one of my 400 watt inverters. NOCO GC018 12V socket with eyelet. Works perfectly. Now, when the power demand is low, I can turn off my big annoying inverter fan and enjoy the silence of this inverter. This greatly improves my sanity as the inverters are only 5ft from my work area. The only issue I had with this inverter is that it doesn't have a power switch, meaning you have to unplug it to turn it off. Ultimately, this can damage the connector. In my setup, I simply connected a switch to the positive side of the NOCO wire so I could turn it off without disconnecting it.
