Review on πŸ”Š Enhanced Rectangular External Communications Speaker for Ham Radio, CB & Scanners by Ryan Bennett

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Sounds great for a transceiver monitor.

I have an Icom 2820H ham radio with the main unit mounted behind the seat of my Grand Cherokee. You can hear the tone of it, but there were times when it was difficult to understand what the point was. I wanted an offset speaker up front, but there just aren't many good spots on this car where it doesn't stick out or get in the way. There is a small hole on the underside of the front instrument panel, right next to the factory USB/aux ports. It's difficult to fit anything other than this small speaker due to its location. I was specifically looking for one that would fit in there and it's small so I ordered this one. It was a bit too big but I made some tweaks and it works and sounds great and is essentially hidden. To illustrate this, consider if you've ever purchased an item that was secured to the back of a bag with those long zip ties and how secure it was there. That was the idea here. What I did was remove the front panel with the speaker from the case. To do this, you'll need to temporarily desolder the wires from the speaker. This allowed the speaker and the face of the panel to sit exactly where I wanted it, but how do I attach it now? Well I attached some plastic screw wire holders to the same screws that hold the speaker to the fascia. Then I removed this factory part where I could work on it and made 5 small holes in the back. Through one I missed the cable and soldered it to the speaker. The rest I threaded with 2 long cable ties and threaded through these cable holders on the speaker and then through another hole on the dashboard and attached the cable ties. To illustrate this, consider if you've ever purchased an item that was secured to the back of a bag with those long zip ties and how secure it was there. That was the idea here. It's all hidden behind the speaker, looks like it was made for it, mounted securely and now plays great sound out of the radio. The shape of this blind hole also compensates for the speaker's missing housing and acts as a kind of new housing for it. It sounds a bit more complicated than it actually was, but as a radio amateur you are no stranger. make changes. Point is, get creative when you need mounting options, this is a great little speaker for radio monitoring.
