I'm no expert, but this works for me.

Wanted to surf the web and view content on a 40" Visio. My laptop has DisplayPort, not HDMI. So I bought it hoping it would help. Connected to a laptop with an HDMI cable connected to a flat panel display, audio and video are provided through Visio. I thought that sound might not be transmitted through this device, but I was wrong! This little guy was everything I needed to be able to watch internet content on a big screen now. I like it!
