A few years ago at a sporting goods fair I bought Mayan polymer wood sticks and a magnesium lighter. Sticks, hit with a magnesium bat and you'll soon be on fire. If you're having trouble finding combustible material, one of Maya's fire sticks will burn hard and last for quite a while. They came in handy more than a few times in wet and wet conditions during a hike with my sons' reconnaissance group. These Mayan chopsticks are MUCH superior to greasy Georgia or Alabama wood. I bought mine in Tennessee! There's already a shaving part in the snuffbox, but you'll need extra tinder if you want to keep your fire going. such situations "just in case".
