Review on πŸš€ Enhanced Performance with Tourney Shimano Shift Lever SL-TX30: A Must-Have for Smooth Gear Shifting by John Wells

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Perfect grip shifter replacement. A new rear derailleur is strongly recommended.

I bought a used 2016 or 2017 Trek Precaliber 20 for my son to get familiar with geared bikes. Even during his test drive I could see he was struggling with the clutch switch that came with him but decided I could clean it and loosen it for him. It wasn't like that. When I brought it home and had a chance to really test it, I struggled to switch it up, which dealt a serious blow to my self-esteem. After a few rides and a quick search on the internet I realized that this is a common problem with all clutch switches. Bikes (new and used) and immediately this particular Shimano shifter became a solid alternative. HOW IT WORKS: In short, it's the perfect replacement. The thumb button is very easy and the handle is big enough for my son to use his whole hand to grab and move it. A complete game changer for him. Shifting up or down is no problem. For the price, it's such an easy upgrade. This set also comes with a front derailleur, although in my case we didn't need it as my son's bike is a 1x6. It wasn't hard to find someone who wanted that left side of the counter for free. INSTALLATION: I'm not a bike mechanic. I once installed a water bottle cage on my bike and bragged about it for months until my wife told me to stop. There are a few YouTube videos to help with this installation, and overall it's easy enough that you can restore it with very little effort if you follow the same steps as removing the old switch. I literally made a video of removing the old derailleur to make sure I repeat the same process installing the new derailleur. For me the issue was the cable housing and making sure I put everything back in the right order. Chaos. I struggled to calibrate the old switch for smooth shifting. I decided to swap out the rear derailleur and I HIGHLY recommend it, especially if you're upgrading a used bike. I bought a Shimano RD-TY500 Tourney rear derailleur for under $20 and the combo of that and the new rear derailleur was amazing. It deserves my highest recommendation. again as not a bike mechanic.
