I'm a software developer so I'm probably a little more used to and tolerant of fan noise as that's quite to be expected when I start pushing my MacBook Pro hard. But I bought this Chromebook for my wife to replace her old one, which has been removed from Google's support list (which means there are no more software updates). Her old one (which wasn't exactly cheap either) was noisy from the fan, but not as much as this new one I think. Also, the fan spins up and down a bit more on the new one, making it more distracting. Thought of returning it based on that alone but my wife said it was fine and within a minute or so after it boots up and before/if you don't start pushing it the fan isn't that bad so leave it we it. Also, with this screen size and price point, and with a decent processor, the number of Chromebook models isn't that great, and as far as I know, that noise level is typical. But if you're hypersensitive to sound, you can at least mentally prepare to return this Chromebook. Noise issues aside, this Chromebook feels well built and fast.
